The short answer: Sozo – Tower Defense is a mixed reality strategy game for Meta Quest 3 and 3S in which your own room becomes the map. According to the studio, the content is already described in detail. What’s missing are the details that matter most for a buying decision: price, release date, age rating, and comfort rating. That’s why there is no score here, but a pre-release report.
What we looked at
For this report, we reviewed the studio’s information about the game, meaning the detailed game description, the privacy policy, and the product page. The store page in the Meta Horizon Store was not available at the time of our review on October 10, 2026. We applied the same criteria as with any other VR game:
- Content: How much game do you get, and how varied is it?
- Controls: How do you control the game, and how easy is it to get into?
- Room and comfort: How much space do you need, and how physical is the game?
- Price and value: What does it cost, and are there additional purchases?
- Privacy: What data is collected?
All details below come from the studio. We have not yet played the store version of the game.
What you get according to the studio
The basic idea: Rifts open in your real walls, and monsters run along a glowing path on your real floor toward the so-called Core Crystal. You build towers on hexagonal tiles next to the path, upgrade them through three tiers, use powers from a wrist menu, and swat flying enemies out of the air with your hand or controller.
The scope according to the studio:
| Area | Detail |
|---|---|
| Levels | 160 (8 realms with 20 levels each) |
| Bosses | 8, each in levels 10 and 20 of a realm |
| Towers | 8, each with 3 tiers |
| Enemies | 48 (6 base types across 8 realms) |
| Powers | 4 (Meteor, Stasis, Overcharge, Mend) |
| Difficulty levels | 5 (Casual to Ultra) |
| Languages | 14 plus automatic detection |
Important for strategy fans: The game relies on a counter system. Every tower has a damage type, enemies have weaknesses and resistances, and from level four onward, the rift adapts if a single damage type deals more than half the damage. According to the studio, players who keep building the same tower won’t get far.
By the way, flying enemies do not attack the crystal but your towers. Destroyed towers are gone, with no refund. Flyers only attack the crystal once no towers are left standing.
Controls and modes
You play with touch controllers or hand tracking; in the settings you choose “Auto,” “Controllers,” or “Hands.” There are also options for dominant hand, vibration, and reduced animations.
There are two modes with identical gameplay:
- Mixed reality (default): The game reads the Quest’s room scan, places rifts on real walls, and routes the path around your furniture. The same room and the same level always produce the same layout.
- VR mode (optional): The room is hidden, and the play area sits on a floating island in a fantasy world, on a fixed area of 3.4 × 3.8 meters. A hexagonal shield warns you when your head or hands get too close to real walls or furniture.
You can switch at any time via the main menu or settings.
Room and physical effort
Sozo is a standing game. You point at the floor, aim powers, swat at flyers, and turn around in the room. The studio does not describe a seated mode. Build areas are only on the floor, never on tables. If you have little space or a full room, you can switch to VR mode, but you still need a clear area.
Price and value
No price is known. The studio describes two in-game currencies: gold, which resets in every level, and gems, which you earn only by winning levels and spend in the “Garage” on permanent tower upgrades. Real-money purchases are not mentioned in the studio’s information. We will clarify whether the game has a one-time price once the store page is live.
Privacy
According to the privacy policy dated October 6, 2026, the game collects no data, uses no developer servers, shows no ads, includes no third-party SDKs, and does not use a microphone. Save data is stored locally on the headset.
Who it’s for and who should skip it
Sozo seems well suited for tower defense players looking for depth, for Quest 3 or 3S owners who want to try mixed reality, and for strategy newcomers who appreciate a gentle learning curve.
You should skip it if you can or want to play only while seated, if you want to play with others (no multiplayer is described), or if you own a Quest 2 or Quest Pro, because support for those devices is not confirmed.

What we will check
Once Sozo is available in the store, we will check the price relative to the scope, the comfort details, the age rating, the quality of room detection in different rooms, and whether the beginner aids deliver what the studio describes. Only then will we give it a score.
Alternatives
If you want to play tower defense on the Quest today, the store offers, among others, Towers and Powers (a god game with island defense) and Tiny Archers (bow defense against goblins and orcs). Both are pure VR games.
Bottom line
According to the studio, Sozo is substantial, beginner-friendly, and privacy-conscious. But the hard facts from the store are still missing for a purchase recommendation. We recommend waiting for them.
Bottom line
On paper, Sozo is a substantial and thoughtfully designed tower defense game for mixed reality. We will only give it a score once the price, rating, and comfort details are listed in the store.
