MindIsland Report: Is an AI Meditation Written for Your Problem Worth It?
Our main report on MindIsland: what the personalized AI meditation offers, what it costs, who it fits, and who is better off with another app.
Pros
- Every session responds to what you type in yourself
- Short lengths of 3, 5, or 10 minutes in any posture
- A daily meditation for days when you don't want to type anything
- The last ten meditations available offline
- Data export and account deletion possible at any time
Cons
- Usable only with a subscription after the first meditation; no trial period found
- Durations of the larger subscription packages not stated in the store
- Synthetic AI voices instead of human narrators
- Small, still-growing library

The short answer: MindIsland is a meditation app that generates a new guided meditation from a few words about your situation. That works as a complement to classic apps that play the same recordings for everyone. After one free meditation, you need a subscription. Whether it’s worth it depends on how often you want a meditation for a very specific occasion.
What we looked at
We use the same criteria for all app reports:
- Value: What do you get for the money, what is free, what costs extra?
- Ease of use: How quickly do you get from installing to your first session?
- Content: How much material is available, and what kind?
- Comfort and safety: How does the app handle sensitive topics, what does it promise and what does it not?
- Privacy: What happens to what you type in?
Our statements are based on the mindisland.app website, the store listings in the App Store and on Google Play, and the website’s privacy notices, all as of October 10, 2026.
What you get
Personalized meditation from one sentence
At the heart is an input field asking what you would like to meditate on. You write, for example, “Big presentation tomorrow, my thoughts won’t settle.” According to the store listing, a new meditation is created from that in seconds. In the interface, you can see a microphone icon for voice input alongside typing.
According to the maker, every session follows the same three-step structure:
- The problem is named and acknowledged.
- The meditation works through it gently and puts the stress trigger in a different light.
- At the end come breathing and calm.
Every session begins with the same breath: four seconds in, a short pause, six seconds out.
Lengths and posture
You choose between 3, 5, and 10 minutes. According to the maker, the guidance adapts to your posture: on a chair, cross-legged on the floor, lying down, or standing, for example on a crowded train. That sets MindIsland apart from many apps whose recordings tacitly assume you are sitting quietly.
Daily meditation, library, and articles
If you don’t want to type anything, you’ll find a newly generated daily meditation every morning. There is also a library of ready-made meditations in eight hand-made categories, including Breathe, Sleep, Focus, Anxiety Relief, and Gratitude. The maker does not give a number of sessions, only that new ones are added regularly. There is also an articles section with short texts on mindfulness, posture, and philosophy, a daily quote, and reading progress saved across devices.
History, stats, and offline
The app shows total sessions, daily streak, and total time. Past meditations can be played again, rated, and marked as favorites. The last ten meditations are cached on the device, so you can listen to them without a connection.
Price and value
The download is free, and according to the website FAQ you get one free meditation. After that you need MindIsland Premium. In the US App Store, the following in-app purchases were listed on October 10, 2026:
| Product | Price (US App Store, as of October 10, 2026) |
|---|---|
| MindIsland Premium Monthly | $12.99 |
| MindIsland Premium | $89.99 |
| MindIsland Premium Offer | $39.99 |
| 5 Meditation Credits | $5.99 |
| 10 Meditation Credits | $8.99 |
| 20 Meditation Credits | $12.99 |
Important for cautious buyers: For the $89.99 and $39.99 packages, the store does not state a duration. Check carefully on the purchase screen what period you are signing up for. We did not find a free trial period in the store listings. The store description mentions that you can top up with credit packages within a full month. That points to an allowance. So don’t assume an unlimited number of personalized meditations.
A subscription taken out through the App Store or Google Play is canceled in the subscription settings of the respective store, not by deleting the app.
For a sense of scale: monthly subscriptions for well-known meditation apps are in a similar range. The difference lies less in the price than in the approach.
Comfort, safety, and privacy
According to the store listing, MindIsland describes itself as an app for relaxation and personal reflection. It is expressly not a medical device and offers no therapy, diagnosis, or treatment. The app states that the content is AI-generated and does not replace professional advice. We think that boundary is right. Anyone dealing with persistent anxiety, insomnia, or low mood should seek medical or therapeutic advice.
On privacy: According to the privacy notices, the Google Gemini API generates the texts, Inworld handles the voice output, and the audio files are created and stored at AWS in Ireland. So what you type in does leave your device. The maker states the app is GDPR-compliant and offers to export all data or delete the account at any time. Still, only type in as much as you need for the meditation.
On age rating: In the App Store the app is rated for ages 13 and up, on Google Play as “Everyone.” Both stores also show an advertising notice (“Contains ads” and “Contains: Advertising,” respectively). The maker does not describe any advertising in the app. We cannot clarify this conclusively, so we mention it.
Who it’s for
- Working people with specific occasions: a presentation, a difficult conversation, not being able to switch off.
- People whose thoughts circle at night and who want a short session lying down.
- Commuters who want to meditate while standing.
- Beginners who found general recordings too generic.
Who should skip it
- Anyone mainly looking for free material: after one session, a subscription is required.
- Anyone who values human teachers and multi-week courses.
- Anyone who needs meditations in German or a language other than English. There is no evidence of other languages so far, even though the website is available in eight languages.
- Anyone expecting sleep tracking, an alarm, or bedtime stories. MindIsland does not offer that.
Alternatives
- Headspace: a curated, pre-recorded library with courses. Good for anyone who wants a structured learning path.
- Calm: known for Sleep Stories and music, also pre-recorded. Strong on sleep.
- Insight Timer: a very large free library with many human teachers. The obvious choice on a small budget.
- Balance: personalized via a questionnaire and a plan, not per session.
None of these apps is inherently better or worse. They solve different tasks.
Our take
We rate MindIsland 8.9 out of 10 (publisher’s opinion). The idea of first acknowledging the problem and then guiding you to calm is clearly implemented, the short lengths fit into any day, and the offline cache and data export are thoughtful. Points come off for the missing trial phase, unclear durations for the larger packages, and a still-small library. You can learn more on the official MindIsland website.
Bottom line
MindIsland is worth it for people who find general meditation recordings too far removed from their everyday lives. The app writes a short session for your occasion and stays simple about it. If you want a lot of free material or human teachers, you are better off elsewhere.
