How long is HAUNTED really? Story length, chapter select, and replay value
Story runs about 25 to 35 minutes, plus chapter select, New Game+, two secret chapters, and endless arcade: what HAUNTED really offers in terms of time.

The short answer: According to the developer, the story of HAUNTED: Are You Alone? runs about 25 to 35 minutes. On top of that come three endless arcade modes, two secret chapters, free chapter select, and a New Game+. How long you’re occupied overall therefore depends heavily on whether high scores and secrets appeal to you.
We answer the most common questions about playtime here, plainly and without spoilers.
How long does the story take?
About 25 to 35 minutes, according to the developer. The campaign consists of a prologue, seven chapters (The Witch, The Hands, The Doll, The Hole, The Darkness, The Mirror, The Puppy), a finale, and an epilogue. The store listing mentions “8 chapters,” which most likely means the seven chapters plus the finale.
The ten-minute range is mainly explained by how often you die and how long you look around in individual scenes. If you fail more often, you can call “Help” after each death and choose “Skip chapter” from the third death in the same chapter. So you can’t get stuck forever.
Why is the story so short?
The game is built as a dense horror experience: each chapter brings its own threat and usually its own mechanic or weapon. Instead of stretching playtime with repetition, it constantly changes the scenario. For horror, that’s not necessarily a drawback, because scares wear off when repeated too often. But if you calculate playtime per dollar, you should know the short length before buying.
Can I replay individual chapters?
Yes. Via “Chapters” in the main menu, all chapters are selectable from the start, and the ones you’ve already reached are marked. That’s handy if you want to show a friend just one specific chapter or try out a mechanic again without repeating the whole story.
What is New Game+?
After the credits, you can play the story again. According to the developer, menu texts and dialogues change. The chapter sequence stays the same, so it’s more of a variation than a new campaign. We won’t reveal exactly what changes here, because it’s tied to the ending.
How long do the arcade modes last?
Theoretically endless. Under “Games” you’ll find Grave Rush (zombie shooter), Arm Cutter (deflect arms with axe or sword), and Skull Hunt (hunt skulls with flashlight and revolver). All three run in waves until your three hearts are used up. You collect coins, upgrade weapons in the “Bone Market” shop, and chase a top-5 high score per mode.
How long that stays motivating is individual. As a rough guide:
| Player type | Realistic engagement |
|---|---|
| Story only | One evening, about 25 to 35 minutes |
| Story plus replaying chapters | One to two evenings |
| Story plus arcade unlocks | Several sessions, until the shotgun (450), sword (600), and assault rifle (900 coins) are unlocked |
| High-score chasers | Open-ended, depending on ambition |
This table is an assessment, not a measurement. We deliberately don’t name hour counts we can’t back up.
What about the secret chapters?
There are two secret chapters unlocked via codes. Both are short and intense. After the first playthrough, the game gives a hint on how to find them. We won’t name the codes themselves here, to avoid spoiling anything.
Is it worth the price?
According to the UK store listing, HAUNTED cost £3.99 on October 10, 2026, as a one-time purchase with no subscription. For that price, half an hour of dense story plus arcade is a fair package in our view. But if you expect an evening-filling horror adventure over many hours, you won’t be happy with HAUNTED. More details are in the Meta Horizon Store.
Who is the playtime enough for?
It’s enough for you if: - you’re looking for an intense horror evening, say for Halloween or with an audience, - you like short, self-contained experiences, - you enjoy chasing high scores.
It’s probably not enough for you if: - you expect a long story with many hours, - you don’t play arcade modes at all, - you decide based on playtime per dollar.
In short
The story is short; the game isn’t necessarily. Chapter select, New Game+, secret chapters, and three endless modes significantly extend usage time, but only for players who actually use such extras. If you know that before buying, you won’t be disappointed.
Bottom line
HAUNTED's story is finished in one evening; the game itself is not. If you only want the story, plan on a good half hour; if you take in the arcade and the secrets, you'll get much more out of it.
